In-Character Information

Name: Link
Game/Series: Legend of Zelda
Teacher/Student/Other: Student
Canon Point: Twilight Princess
Age: 17
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Junior
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm, please!

Personality:
Link is typically a quiet guy, serious about his studies and his work. He can be shy, perhaps cold around people that he has never met before, though once he gets to know people, he comes out of his shell and can be very personable. He can be an introvert, and prefers to work in smaller groups of two or three people or by himself. He does enjoy parties and larger gatherings, though he might be a little cold or uncomfortable at the beginning until he notices someone he knows well.

Known for oversleeping, Link can come across as lazy when he is tired, and in his free time, he prefers to grab a quick nap, eat, or train. If you were to bribe him with food, he would definitely agree to do what you ask of him (assuming the food is good, of course).

He is incredibly selfless, often putting others before himself even when his needs are far more pressing. Often that can get him into trouble, and he can feel suffocated with his own issues. Sometimes it takes someone telling him to put himself first to actually make him see that he is ignoring his own problems.

Link’s main quest has been fulfilled, so he is looking forward to relaxing and enjoying his time from now on. Should the need arise, he is more than happy to jump back into battle. He thrives on purpose and crisis, finding himself more productive and efficient during those times. That said, he procrastinates, and he typically does his best work while faced with an impending deadline.

There is not much that Link fears. He has faced his mortality more than once and fought many monsters and people. He is reluctant to trust people, even if he agrees to help them, though it only takes two or three acts of trust from the other person for him to lose that insecurity with them.

Backstory:
Link started his life in Ordon Village as a rancher, and a good one at that. He was well respected within his small village; everyone knew that if something needed to be done, Link could help them do so. The village children looked up to Link, but none more so than Collin, a little boy and son of the sword-smith in town, Rusl.

Link spent the majority of his days tending to the farm with his beloved steed, Epona, entertaining the requests of the village children, and spending time with the daughter of the Mayor of Ordon, Illia. Though it was never fully explored, a relationship between Illia and Link was heavily implied. Link’s relationship with the Mayor was also good, and both seemed to be more than happy to put up with Illia’s mostly teasing criticism of how Link treated Epona, and how the Mayor always seemed to go easy on Link in general.

Link’s journey through Hyrule began when Rusl requested Link’s assistance in transporting the Ordon Sword and Ordon Shield to Hyrule Castle as an act of good will for the Royal Family. Link accepts the quest, immediately going to saddle up Epona and prepare her for the journey. Before he can fully prepare, King Bublin and his minions ransack the village, kidnapping the children and Illia, taking Epona, and effectively knocking Link unconscious so he can do nothing to stop them.

After a small amount of time, Link regains consciousness and makes his way toward the Faron Province, already determined to rescue the children and continue his mission for Rusl. However, at this point Faron Province has been swathed in Twilight. Upon entering this area of twilight, the Triforce of Courage that Link possesses allows Link to be transformed into a wolf. The process of being transformed is painful, and Link ends up passing out once again within the Twilight. He is then captured by the Shadow Beasts, who take him to a dungeon in Hyrule Castle, which is also covered by the Twilight.

Here, he meets with a Twili named Midna, who was actually the Princess of the Twilight Realm, and he begins to learn from both her and Princess Zelda what is truly required of him for his quest. Midna tells him of Zant, the usurper of the throne of the Twilight Realm. Together, Link and Midna fight through the Twilight in the Faron, Eldin and Lanaryu provinces.

Through out the quest, Link and Midna work to gather the Fused Shadows, which Midna believes is what they will need to defeat Zant. Zant is also being given power through another force, Ganondorf. She believes that the Fused Shadows could end Ganondorf as well. In order to get to Zant and Ganondorf, however, they would need to get to the Twilight Mirror, which was the gateway to the Twilight Realm.

After much trial and tribulation, they were successful in freeing Zelda from the Twilight’s grasp, and together the three of them defeated Zant and Ganondorf. Zelda and Link then went with Midna, now in her true form, to the Twilight Mirror to see her off. Midna disappears in the mirror and then destroys it, effectively locking the gateway between the Realm of Light and the Twilight Realm.

Link’s full history is here.

Shortly after the land of Hyrule returned to normal and people began to recover their lives, Link was riding Epona through Faron Woods one fine afternoon, and became distracted with a monkey who was gesturing for him to follow her. The distraction was just enough that Link was unable to duck away from a large tree branch, and struck his head on the thick wood. When he came to, he was no longer in Hyrule, but a strange city…with what appeared to be a school? Confused and in a significant amount of pain from his head, Link ventured to the information services area of the school, inquiring of his location and how to get back to Faron Woods. It was then that he learned of Smash Academy, and at the urging of the girl at the information desk, decided to enroll.

Anything Else?:
Weapons: The Master Sword
Strange markings: Birthmark of the Triforce on his left hand (usually covered by gauntlet in his warrior clothing

In-Character 1st person sample:

If there is one thing I have learned at this Academy so far, it is to expect the unexpected. Not in the sense that I have dealt with in the past; enemies popping in out of no where, Epona coming flying at me at top speed and spooked out of her mind, being turned into a wolf on multiple occasions… No. The unexpected here means something far different.

This is what I keep in mind as I listen to the music that is pounding through the hallway of my dorm floor. I was trying to sleep, but before I could even lie down to do so, the music started.

It is with apprehension that I make my way to the door. Expect the unexpected. My hand grips onto the handle of my door and I turn it, pulling the door open and peeking out of my room. I glance one way down the hall…nothing. I glance the other way…

My eyes widen at the sight I am greeted with. My floor mates and Crazy Hand are dancing in the hallway to this thumping music. It looks like what I have come to understand is a rave. A gay rave. They are all wearing speedos.

It takes me several seconds to process this sight, and my mind vehemently tries to push the processing away. One of the members of the gay rave motions towards me, grinning as he tries to get me to join them. Another member waves a speedo in the air, eyes locked on to mine.

My lips tighten into a thin line, and I let how completely unamused I am show plainly on my face. I look away from them and find myself nodding for a second. Of course. Expect the unexpected.

“That…certainly was unexpected,” I mutter to myself, shaking my head quickly and pulling myself back into my room. The door shuts in front of me with a soft click and I punch the lock in on the door to keep that madness outside.

I have seen a lot in the last seventeen years of my life, more specifically the last year in total… but that…

I give my head another rough shake to push the images from my mind. Speedos, bodies, dancing, Crazy Hand…all of it. The music continues to thump outside, and I heave a soft sigh. Clearly sleep is not going to happen.

I make my way to my desk and pull out one of my textbooks and my homework.

Might as well study.

In-Character 3rd person sample:

It had been a long day so far. It was good, though, Link decided. He liked to be busy, and this Academy was certainly keeping him so. He wanted nothing more than to return to his dorm, rest for a while, maybe eat something, and then just spend some time reading; It was too early in the afternoon to call it a night completely.

That was the plan at least. Link frowned at the lock on the door to his dorm. The key. It was in his backpack. Ugh. He slipped one of the straps from his shoulders, letting the bag swing around. The other strap slid down his arm and into his hand as he lowered the whole thing to the floor. He knelt next to it and unzipped it, parting the fabric so he could look inside. Key. Key…

Pens and pencils were pulled out of the bag, textbooks following, then spirals that contained his notes. Key… His lips pulled into a frown of concentration and he shoved his hand to the bottom of his bag, fingers grasping onto a couple of smooth, hard things. He grinned and jerked his hand back out, opening his fingers to look down into his palm.

Key! And…

Cerulean eyes locked onto the gem that sat in the palm of his hand next to the key. A rupee. Just a green rupee, but it was a rupee nonetheless. The grin faded a little, moving to something softer as he fondly looked down at the rupee that glistened in his palm.

How long had he been here at this Academy? Six or seven months, he figured, considering how far they were with classes. Six or seven months had passed since he had seen his home. The past few breaks had been spent here because he had so much work to do. Going home had not even occurred to him as an option.

His other hand lifted, fingers brushing over the broad face of the gem, feeling the sudden drop offs of the slopes to the rest of the currency. Maybe this next break, he would go home and visit everyone. He had not said anything to any of them regarding where he had been or if he would be coming back.

He took the key into the fingers of his free hand, pushing himself up as he closed his other hand around the rupee, holding it tightly. He would make it a point to go home next break.
